How we grade this

Chips are graded on what is in the bag. Kun and Chuangui sieve a sample for size range, fines and dust, and pick through it for stems, wood, stones and other foreign matter, which hide more easily in broken material. They also smell and taste the chips: thin, broken bark from young trees can be pungent without the sweet finish, and a sour or musty note means the bark was badly dried or treated.

Frequently asked questions about Broken Bark Chips

What are cassia chips used for?

Grinding, extraction, spice blends and food processing. They are the most economical bark form: in Yulin in spring 2026, chips traded about 25–30% below ordinary Guangxi quills.

What size are the chips?

Commonly 0.5–2 cm. Give your size range and fines limit, and we sieve the sample against them.

Are chips lower in oil?

They can be, because they often come from thinner or broken bark. Ask for the volatile-oil result on the lot; our reference is at least 1.5 mL/100 g.
